About Us
Powell Town Volunteer Fire Department (“PTVFD”) was incorporated in Texas on June 10, 1981. While PTVFD was formed to serve primarily the southern parts of San Augustine County, the department also works with other area volunteer fire departments as needed to help save lives and property.

While the people have changed over the years - the mission of PTVFD is still the same. PTVFD members are unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to serving their community and helping their neighbors during their time of need.
Some of the things you might see our volunteers doing include:
(1) Fighting fires
(2) Helping with traffic accidents
(3) Providing basic life-saving support to the sick and injured until an EMS ambulance arrives
(4) Arranging a safe landing location for life flight helicopters to pick up and transport the sick and injured to the hospital
(5) Training so the volunteers are prepared to help
(6) Fund raising to buy needed equipment and supplies
(7) Helping with fire and personal safety education for the community
